    In Devon, Paignton (/ˈpeɪntən/ PAYN-tən) is a Tor Bay town that is seaside. Domesday Book of AD 1086 mentions Paignton as Peintone in the ancient hundred of Kerswell. In 1294, Paignton was given the status of a borough. Opened on 2 August 1859 to passengers, providing Paignton and Torquay with a link to Torbay, Dartmouth, and London, built the line to Paignton.
